About Becky

Hi! I'm Becky (formerly Murphy) Simpson and I'm an illustrator and author in Austin, Texas.

I was born and raised in Iowa, where I got my start as an avid doodler, positive thinker and pun-maker. My favorite books as a kid were The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and Amelia's Notebook by Marissa Moss.

I kept up with the drawing and went to Iowa State where I studied graphic design. Upon graduation, I landed a job where they paid me to doodle monsters on band shirts.  Soon after, I wrote and illustrated my first book called I'd Rather Be Short. It's 100 reasons why it's awesome to be small. It was published by Plume Books (imprint of Penguin Random House) in late 2013 and is available where books are sold. Check it out here, here or here. I'm currently working on my second book, The Roommate Book (Andrews McMeel, Spring 2016).

This year I'm a creative resident for Adobe. During this residency, I'm focusing on the creative process of designing a sustainable illustration business. I'm excited to fuse my passions: connections, process and play and hopefully help others along a similar journey. You can follow the process on Instagram, BehanceTwitter and my blog.

I'm not currently taking on new projects, but I have talented friends. I'm happy to send referrals if you're in need of a designer or illustrator.
